Tawan Perry

BIO

Tawan Perry overcame incredible odds to become the person he is today.  As a teenager, he lost his best friend to a violent crime. After completing high school, he had to learn the reality of life without an education: Choices are made for you. The turning point came when he grew sick and tired of doing nothing with his life. He enrolled into a local community college and began taking classes. Although he was enrolled, he failed both the English and Math placement tests. He spent the next two years struggling to get out of remedial courses. With hardwork and persistence, he eventually graduated and was awarded a full academic scholarship. He would never look back again.

Tawan’s inspirational message is “it's not about the  smartest or most gifted; it is about who can persist. Persistence always wins the marathon of life." Today, Tawan draws on the life lessons learned to help people, especially the youth, transform their own lives.

Tawan earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Morgan State University and his master's degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Tawan currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Student Life at Warren Wilson College.

Tawan's presentations cover topics from college access/retention, college transition, student leadership, and diversity.

What Happens in Greatness, Stays in Greatness

I remember when someone first told me that I was great, up to that point I had never been told those three words but after hearing those words I never was the same. The feeling of being told I was great was one of the best affirmations that I ever received. What Happens in Greatness, Stays in Greatness so is a keynote speech that will inspire any and every audience to reach their personal goals whatever they may be. Greatness never begins with achievements or accomplishments; it begins with a decision to be great. Are you ready to be great?

In this keynote speech:

Participants will be empowered to make changes that will inspire life long success

Participants will learn the importance of freewill and creation in the pursuit of excellence

Participants will be inspired to find and recapture their human birthright, GREATNESS
