BIO
John Bolger was born in the middle of the Blizzard of 67 – to an unwed mother of 16. From there he went to live in a foster home for 3 years – until a heart murmur required several surgical procedures. The state put him back up for adoption, and he went to live until he was 18 years old with parents who were 50 years old. His mother suffered from bi-polar disorder – and his father was a man of very few words. John's childhood, to say the least, was an often violent and very difficult set of circumstances. As he got a bit older, he began to act out at home and in school. By his sophomore year in high school, he was being kicked out and finding himself in serious trouble with the law. His life began to turn for the better when he was arrested in the summer between sophomore and junior year. Since then, his journey has been one of love. He started in a junior college, started earning really good grades, met a variety of life-changing individuals who helped him define himself as a successful and caring, and eventually ended up at Loyola University of Chicago – where he graduated near the top of his class in Liberal Arts and Sciences.
John was a history teacher for 18 years, and then became an Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction. He have been married (to a girl he knew as a wayward youth!) for 20 years, and they have a daughter who is 18. He lives each day feeling like he has lived two lives – and that he is incredibly blessed to work with kids.
John would love to get involved – and enjoy sharing my story of love and survival (and self discipline) with students. He has been speaking at Snowball events since 1995.
